2025 Grizzly Band Camp Information Sheet (Aug 4-8)

What is Grizzly Band Camp?

The main function of the Grizzly Band is to support our athletics and contribute to the overall school spirit at GPHS. The band is an integral part of high school culture. Participation in the Grizzly Band allows you to earn a varsity letter – one of the only activities that you can earn a varsity letter for all four years in high school.

From Mr Morris: Welcome to Band Camp!

The purpose of band camp is to learn the fundamentals of marching, learn pep band music, and to learn the half-time field show for the year. Students who participate in Grizzly Band during their time in high school will realistically be prepared to enter a college marching band, should they choose. This is also the time where band members get to bond and form the foundation of friendships that last throughout high school and beyond. The social interactions of the Grizzly Band are just as important as the learning that takes place.

To march the half-time show, attendance at band camp is mandatory. Contact Mr. Morris as soon as possible if you are out of town during band camp.

We are very excited for the new season, and the leadership is busy making plans for the upcoming year. We look forward to getting to know you, see you at band camp!

Are there scholarships? (Absolutely!)

The GPHS Band Boosters want to be sure that finances are never a barrier to joining the Grizzly Band or participating in band programs. These need-based scholarships are available to partially or fully cover the cost of Grizzly Band fees, concert attire costs, and required field trip fees associated with band class.

For details and to apply for a scholarship, please fill out the form here. Once approved you will receive a unique coupon code to use with this registration. Scholarship requests and grants are always kept strictly confidential.

What to bring each day

Much of band camp will be spent outside. Be prepared to be in the sun and watch the weather reports for rain or heat warnings. We will take several breaks throughout the day to stay hydrated and allow everyone to reapply sunscreen.

  • Sack Lunch – We’ll break for lunch about 12pm daily
  • Water Bottle – More water available for refills!
  • Sunscreen – remember to apply every few hours
  • Closed-toe shoes – absolutely no sandals
  • Hat, Sunglasses – and items to help beat the heat
  • Bring your instrument – If you need to borrow one from the school contact Mr Morris right away
  • Lyre, flip book, and windows – Most students will need these. You can get them on Amazon or at local music stores

When do I get a uniform?

You’ll be fitted for uniforms sometime during the first few days of camp. Please wear shorts and a t-shirt for this. The uniforms can be easily fitted over these clothes and the process will move much more quickly if students can try on over their clothes.

If your student is registered for a band class for school they will also have the option to be fitted for a required concert uniform dress (one of 2 options). More information about concert uniforms can be found on here.

Each student will be provided two uniforms:

  • A marching band uniform complete with a hat, coat, and overalls – students must provide black shoes
  • A Grizzly Band shirt that will be worn during Pep Assemblies and Basketball Games

Picture Day

Please arrive by 7:45AM at the Band Room. There you will change in to your uniform, grab your instrument, and head to the commons. We will begin lining everyone up at 8:00AM.

Jason Kim Photography will take group & sectional photos. The photos will be made available online at no cost.

Earning a varsity letter in band

Participation in Grizzly Band is the ONLY way to earn a varsity letter in band. Each day you attend camp and performances you earn points. A letter is awarded for students who earn at least 150 points.

Parents and guardians: We need your help!

Grizzly Band Camp can’t happen without the support of many parent volunteers.

Parent volunteers will assist GP Band Booster Board Members with attendance, uniform fittings, organizing supplies, lunch and picture day supervision, managing the water station, and distributing frozen treats. We need donations of 4-6 canopy tents for shade on the practice field and daily frozen treats for our hardworking band students.

When will the Grizzly Band Perform?

  • We will play at all home football games (3+ in the 2025–2026 school year), plus any playoff games (TBD)
  • During football season, we will hold one two-hour evening practice/week
  • We play for 10 regular season basketball games (5 are required to letter); and we will not rehearse during basketball season
  • We play at all sports related school assemblies
  • We march in parades such as The Mill Creek Veterans Day Parade

All performance dates and times are subject to change.

Be sure to subscribe to the GPHS Band Calendar to stay in-the-know!
