Chaperones
We need (6) chaperones for our Silverwood 2024 trip scheduled for Friday, May 17th – Sunday, May 19th. At this time transportation details have not been finalized. In the event that we are unable to take charter buses, we will need (2) chaperones with large vehicles to volunteer to transport larger instruments. Please read the complete chaperone details below. To volunteer, please email gphsbandboosters@gmail.com with “Silverwood” in the subject line.
The chaperone’s primary duty is the supervision and coordination of student activities and behaviors. Chaperones ensure that the director’s instructions are understood and followed by student participants. Supervision is continuous and hands-on. Chaperones should make sure they interact with all students involved in the trip especially those students to whom they are directly assigned. Whenever possible chaperones will act as an intermediary between the director and students. For example, at check-in times students communicate with their assigned chaperone, who summarizes student details to the director. When students have questions or are seeking permission for a change in plan, they will first contact their assigned chaperone, who will try to resolve their question first.
Chaperones will actively monitor students while at the hotel and maintain an active presence during activities. Chaperones will ensure students are awake with “feet on the floor” and enforce curfew times. Chaperones will need to follow the same timelines as the students and will help load/unload gear as necessary.
To volunteer in our district, all volunteers must complete the online form at Safe Visitors Solutions. For the safety of our students, volunteer applicants must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check before beginning service. This process must be completed every two years.
